OUR STORY
Calamigos, founded in 1947 in the Malibu foothills, began as a dude ranch aimed at teaching young people about the outdoors. Over 70 years, it evolved into a world-class resort and premier event destination. In 2014, in response to a housing waitlist of over 350 students at Pepperdine University, Calamigos partnered with Pepperdine to create an off-campus living-learning community. Dr. Brian Dawson, then Associate Dean of Housing & Residence Life at Pepperdine, led this initiative. With 25 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Dawson joined Calamigos to establish Calamigos Living, dedicated to providing the best off-campus community living for Pepperdine students.

At Calamigos, we aim to create the best off-campus, living-learning community where students can thrive and belong. George Pepperdine, an entrepreneur who pioneered the concept of satellite and franchise stores, founded Pepperdine College with the purpose of promoting "the great cause of beautiful Christian living." He envisioned a place where students could grow in knowledge, culture, science, and the education of the heart.
