Songs for Kanan

I have compiled a list of my favorite songs to listen to when driving down Kanan. Hopefully these songs can help you create the perfect Kanan playlist, whether you are driving alone or with friends, day or night.

pink skies - LANY

This song is such a chill one to groove to. For the best experience, I suggest listening to this one when driving down towards Malibu at sunset. Perhaps you’ll get lucky and see some beautiful pink skies on your way to the beach.

Roses - The Band CAMINO

If you are into ‘windows down, volume up’ kinds of songs, this one's for you. I like to play this one when I am driving a bunch of my friends. We truly do turn the volume up and roll down all the windows. The vibes are always the best on these drives.

Painkiller - Ruel

I love driving with this song because Ruel’s voice is just the perfect complement to an already lovely drive. The energy of the song helps wake me up if I’m having a groggy morning or keeps me going if it’s getting late at night.

Bloom - The Paper Kites

I have included this song because I think the acoustic sound is so sweet and fits well with the small town feeling we have in Malibu. This song will elevate any acoustic playlist in status so quickly, so I suggest you add this one as soon as possible.

Fast Cars and Freedom - Rascal Flatts

If there are any country fans reading this, then this song is the perfect one for you. While driving down Kanan isn’t quite like the back roads of the South, you can still get that familiar joy of a way-too-curvy road partnered with the perfect country music playlist.

Nostalgic - A R I Z O N A

Here we have another good sunset song. I don’t know about you, but seeing sunsets always make me feel nostalgic. That, combined with the smooth beat of the song, make it a great soundtrack for an evening drive into Malibu.

Favorite T-Shirt - Jake Scott

I simply had to include this song because it has Mullholland in it. I know this playlist is for Kanan, but they intersect, so I’m putting it in here. Jake Scott has lots of songs that would fit well on Kanan, so you really can’t go wrong with him.

This City - Sam Fischer

This song is one of my favorites for evening/night drives. If you are a fan of songs that are a little bit sad in word and tune, then this one is probably for you. Malibu really does “[have] a hold on me” and “[have] me wrapped around her finger” just like the song says. Maybe this will apply to you too (hopefully not the “break your heart” part, though).

Rivers and Roads - The Head and the Heart

Living at Calamigos comes with a bittersweet ending that this song encompasses so well. When we finish out the year here, it’s likely that everyone will be graduating and moving on to the next stage of life. This realization will hit you like a ton of bricks, and at that exact point is when you should take a nice relaxing drive and play this song. (Do not do this if it will make you cry. Crying and driving do not belong together.)

Hopefully at least one of these songs spoke to you in some way. My friends and I love to switch who plays the music on different drives, and we always love hearing new ones as well as jamming to the old ones. Maybe you and your friends will create playlists and memories just like we have, and I hope one of these songs that we love so dearly might find its way into your hearts, too.
