Rating the Trees I’ve Climbed at Calamigos
Moving to Calamigos Ranch this semester has presented me with many fun activities that I was not able to do when living on PCH. One of these activities is climbing trees. Like many, when I was younger I loved to find a good tree to climb. Though I may have fallen more times than I’d like to admit, it was always something that brought me joy. Now as a college student I have returned to the trees and oh how they have missed me! I rate my tree climbing ability as a solid 6/10, but with the vast amount of trees on Calamigos property, I feel that this rating will be increasing soon. So for all of my fellow tree climbing enthusiasts, I have rated 10 of the trees that I have climbed throughout my time here.
Disclaimer: falling from trees hurts please be safe!
Tree #1
This tree is located near the student center. It was my first climb of the day and it went swimmingly. It is such a nice tree and it is just difficult enough to be fun but not scary. Started off so strong: 10/10
Tree #2
This tree is horizontal, weird! It wasn't as much a climb as it was a walk. Not the most exciting but I'll give it bonus points for being near the cows: 3/10
Tree #3
This tree has a good location by this pathway as it had an easy foothold as a starting point. It wasn’t difficult to get relatively high. It was a good, fun tree. Will climb again: 9/10
Tree #4
This tree has a lovely view of Lover’s Lake. It was easy to climb and had a nice place to sit and watch the ducks. I also have to appreciate the color of the bark. Very relaxing: 8/10
Tree #5
This is another horizontal tree! It is located in the southwest corner of the grass field. It is bouncy when you walk and good for practicing balance. Pretty chill: 5/10
Tree #6
This tree has a nice horizontal branch but its height and the sidewalk under it makes it a little too scary for me. Bonus points for the beautiful chandeliers: 4/10
Tree #7
Though this tree was great to climb, I was told to get out of it. I think it may be off limits. DO NOT CLIMB: 0/10
Tree #8
This tree is located on Pitsch Canyon Road outside of the Main Bungalow house’s lawn. It was a solid climb. No complaints: 8/10
Tree #9
This tree is near the student center. It has many thick branches and I see a lot of opportunities for high climbs. Very nice: 9/10
Tree #10
This was my last tree of the day and it was a good easy tree to end on. It is located near the Main Bungalow and it has a lot of nice places to sit. I would read a book here: 7/10
Thanks for reading and happy climbing!!
