For The Non-Adventurer

Not everyone enjoys intense outdoor activities, whether it be rock climbing, surfing, or any other activities that might interest your friends, but definitely not you. For those who enjoy the lazy side of the outdoors, or who just want to sit and enjoy the view, here are a few things you can do instead of extreme hikes or scuba diving.

  1. At Calamigos, there are many calming spots to sit and take in the sunshine while reading a book, or having discussions with friends. One of my favorites is a beautiful open park with well-maintained grass, that is situated next to a man-made lake, a volleyball court, and a carousel often used for pictures. Another beautiful spot to sit and read is next to one of the many pools located at Calamigos. The chairs are quite comfortable and perfect for getting some sun.

  2. If you want to get a beautiful view, there is, of course, the beach. And while there may be one coast, there are many different beaches you can choose from. El Matador is beautiful for a sunset stroll, Zuma has a wide expanse of sand if you’re going to play any games with friends, and a favorite of many is Ralph’s beach.

  3. Another beautiful lookout point and place to walk is along Vera Canyon Drive. There’s a calming creek and it’s nicely shaded for hotter days. Near the end of the street, there’s a lookout point into a part of the canyon where hawks circle and birds hover. It’s my favorite walk on Calamigos property.

  4. If you can afford it, going to Malibu Cafe to spoil yourself can be a lovely way to spend the afternoon. While the food is expensive and the outside seating a bit odd, it truly is a beautiful place to sit and eat, and having brunch there with your friends is a lovely way to start the week.

  5. And last but not least, the beach is always a great place to sit and relax. Moving water is beneficial to humans, and not just any moving water, but the waves themselves. You breathe at an average rate of 12 breaths per minute, and waves, on average, crash 12 times per minute. Your body feels calmer being able to sync with the waves, and nighttime is perfect for stargazing as well.

While there are many different activities one can do in Malibu, not all are for the faint of heart, the introvert, the non-adventurer, but there are still many things one who sits on the sidelines can enjoy doing, whether by themselves or with friends.
